Century City pedestrian crossings
Solar lighting solution ensures safety at busy pedestrian crossings during power outages
Century City is a mixed-use development located 10km north-east of Cape Town, offering entertainment, retail, residential and office facilities. Known for its luxurious amenities and stunning scenery, this vibrant suburb, is home to an estimated 65 000 people and welcomes 21 million visitors a year.
The Century City Property Owners' Association (CCPOA) operates as a mini-municipality and is responsible for the management of the entire Century City Precinct. All property owners in Century City automatically become members of the CCPOA.
Safety, a priority for all
Safety at night is a priority for all the residents and businesses. Due to power outages, visibility at pedestrian crossings, particularly at the busy intersection of a MyCiTi bus stop and the Public Transport Interchange (PTI), was a concern for the CCPOA. They wanted a lighting system that would ensure safety at all times and in all circumstances - a solar lighting solution was required.
Urban lighting to deliver security, efficiency and design
Our ALBANY LED luminaire currently lights the streets all around Century City and the CCPOA did not want to lose the look and feel of the development. After contacting our team, who has extensive experience in lighting pedestrian crossings, we proposed a solution using our recently launched ALBANY GEN2 luminaires on a pole with an integrated vertical solar system.
Solar lighting ensures a safer nightscape
The luminaires provide the necessary vertical illuminance to ensure that pedestrians crossing the road at night are clearly visible to drivers at a safe stopping distance. In the event of a power failure, the vertical solar system will provide light to ensure that pedestrians continue to be visible to drivers and feel safe crossing the road at night.
We were delighted to work with the CCPOA to deliver a solar lighting solution that met all the requirements for this project.
