Penthereaz smart lighting upgrade

Smart lighting adapts lighting to real needs of the local community while reducing energy costs by 71%

Penthereaz is a picturesque town in the Gros-de-Vaud region of Switzerland, with traditional Swiss architecture and beautiful scenery. Its public lighting had become outdated, so the local authorities wanted to upgrade to LED lighting to improve safety and save energy. They decided to connect the luminaires to a remote management system that would further reduce energy costs as well as light pollution. They wanted a modern luminaire with a design that would harmoniously blend into the town landscape.

FLEXIA QUERCUS, an elegant luminaire that delivers a quality light

After looking at different options, they chose the FLEXIA QUERCUS, a versatile luminaire with a plant-based design that brings a touch of nature to the heart of the town.

The FLEXIA QUERCUS features a flat glass protector that directs all the light to the ground with no light spill. It has been approved by the International Dark-Sky Association as a responsible lighting solution that preserves dark skies.

Smart lighting to meet residents needs while saving energy

All of the FLEXIA QUERCUS luminaires are controlled by the Schréder EXEDRA lighting control management system to adjust the lighting according to real needs. To ensure that the lighting met the expectations of the local community, tests were carried out in four streets. Feedback from the residents was invaluable in determining the most appropriate lighting levels.

A dimming schedule was implemented based on these insights. The lighting is automatically dimmed to 40% until 10 PM and then to 20% until sunrise. This configuration delivers substantial energy savings of over 70%. For safety reasons, the pedestrian crossings remain fully lit throughout the night.

Schréder EXEDRA, a system that opens up opportunities

Thanks to the intuitive interface of Schréder EXEDRA, the local authorities can easily adapt the lighting to events taking place in the town. For example, on 12th August this year, the town switched off the lighting for the night of the Perseids to give residents the best possible view of the meteors in the sky.

As Schréder EXEDRA is an open and interoperable platform, the town will be able to connect it to other systems in the future to deliver more valuable services to the local community
